Power Sports Technology

Program Description - Two-Year Program
The Power Sports Technology Program emphasizes maintaining and repairing 2-cycle and 4-cycle small engine equipment. Students demonstrate their understanding of small engine operation, maintenance and repair by working on lawn mowers, garden equipment, chain saws, motorcycles, snowmobiles, snow blowers, and outboard marine engines. The on-site repair shop serves as a hands-on laboratory for students.

  • Adjustment/repair of electical and mechanical components in small engines
  • Carburetor adjustment

  • Disassembly, inspection, repair and reassembly of engines
  • Ingition timing
  • Knowledge of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines
  • Replacement of parts such as gears, IGN points, piston rings and spark plugs

  • Use of hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments

Power Sports Technology provides a student with skills to use while financing a college education. Students can also use this preparation for small engine mechanics programs at post secondary institutions such as Universal Technical Institute`s Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix, Arizona and its Motorcycle and Marine Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Florida. Other colleges include Wyoming Technical College and Ohio Technical College.
