Electronics / Electrical Trades

Program Description - Two-Year Program
The Electronics/Electrical Trades Program will provide students with training in Alarm and Security Systems, Telecommunication Systems, Voice, Video and Data Systems, as well as Residential Line Voltage Systems. It will also highlight the installation, troubleshooting and repair of the systems/devices using cutting edge equipment. This program is incorporating one of the nation's newest curriculums based on the Consortium for Electronic Systems Technician Training. This Consortium is made up of over 10 leading trade associations representing electronic/electrical systems contracting companies such as; Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) and National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry (NJATC). The first year will be based on the installation and termination of residential wiring and devices, and telephone and data cabling for many of the electronic and electrical devices. It will also cover the applications of various types on conductors and cables used in the telecommunication and security systems. The second year will have emphasis on different schemes used for premise wiring of these systems. Cables, cabling terminating devices, installation guidelines, industrial and National Electrical Code and Standards as well as troubleshooting used with voice, video and data system are covered. Also present in the program will be the operation and description of various types and configurations of switchers, relays, timers, and photoelectric devices.
