Operational Definitions:
KCTC student (CTE student) – any student who attends KCTC and is not an adult GRCC student, and not enrolled in the Early College Partnership. Non-KCTC student – any student who is considering or is enrolled in an Early College class, and is not enrolled in a Career and Technical Education class at KCTC. KCTC Early College Student – CTE and Non-KCTC students enrolled in the Early College Partnership
What is the difference between Early College and Articulated Credit?
Early College students receive direct credit for a class on a college transcript. A student earning Articulated credit may not have to take a particular class, but may be required to take another class as a replacement (ex. 130 credits to graduate – 1 Articulated class = 130 credits).
What are the benefits of Early College Enrollment?
Once enrolled at GRCC full-time, an early college student has scheduling preference due to more earned credits. When enrolling at a post-secondary institution, students may have a better selection of courses since students with previously earned credit get to select courses earlier than others.
Is KCTC Early College open to all CTE students?
No. KCTC teachers make a recommendation and the sending school determines if Early College at KCTC is appropriate. Also, some KCTC programs will require students to attend 5 days a week to complete requirements. Students in those programs will not be eligible for Early College classes. A list will be published in May.
Who has the list?
Call KCTC for more information on or after May 1 of the calendar year.
Is KCTC Early College open to all Non-KCTC students?
No. The high school determines if Early College at KCTC is appropriate.
If I want to participate in the Early College Program for more than one semester, do I have to reapply every semester?
No. Once admitted to the Early College Program, students can participate every semester until high school graduation. Students will select new courses each semester.
Can I apply online?
Yes. Early College is processed via KCTC’s online enrollment application.
How is Tuition Paid?
KENT ISD pays the tuition and book fees for KCTC students. Non-KCTC students may have to pay tuition and book fees. Students should discuss with a high school counselor to determine class selection and who covers tuition and book fees. Homeschooled students are responsible for their tuition. Refer to GRCC Tuition and Fees link for current rates. If not paid by the tuition due date, the student will be dropped from class.
How many classes can I take?
A KCTC student is limited to one (1) class per semester. There is an exception. If two (2) sessions of time are available in the daily schedule, a KCTC student may enroll in more than one Early College class. In this exception, one session at KCTC is for a student’s KCTC program, and the second session is for the Early College class.
Which classes should I enroll in?
Students must discuss class selection with their high school counselor. GRCC academic advising is not offered to Early College students. For course descriptions, please see the GRCC Catalog at www.grcc.edu/catalog. Homeschooled students should discuss class selection with their counselor, who is typically their parent/guardian.
Can I take any class offered?
No. Early College students are restricted from taking certain classes.
What will my schedule look like as a KCTC student?
A KCTC student misses 2 days of class each week to attend an Early College class.
I will be missing some time in my KCTC class. Will I be required to complete the work I miss?
Yes. A KCTC student must complete KCTC program requirements. Instructors will provide alternate learning deliveries.
I am a Non-KCTC student and I don’t want to enroll in 3 Early College classes, what could my schedule look like?
Homeschooled students have the same requirements and admissions process for the Early College Program at KCTC.
Who can apply to the Early College Partnership?

What is a transcript?
A transcript is a record of all the classes a student has taken in their high school career and the grades they earned. Each transcript should include two semesters, or three trimesters per academic year, and a cumulative grade point average based on a 4.0 grading scale. See example at: http://www.brightkidsathome.com/examples/trans-examples/homeschool-transcript.pdf Your transcript must be faxed to Starr Hall, KCTC registrar at (616) 364-9140, or send a copy via email.
How do I apply?
There are two application steps:
1. Send your application, your transcript, and $20 application fee (make checks payable to GRCC) to the Admissions Office at GRCC.
2. Complete the KCTC application and fax it to Starr Hall at (616) 364-9140 or send a copy via email.
If I am a homeschooled student, who signs as my counselor/principal?
Most homeschooled students obtain academic guidance from their parent/guardian. In this case, your parent/guardian would be required to sign in both the "parent/guardian" and "counselor/principal" places.
